Customer Notice – General Rate Increase USWC to Pacific Islands

You will no doubt be aware of the extraordinary challenges faced by the Global Supply Chain over the past 12 months. The initial onset of COVID-19 meant a significant decline in shipping volumes, however a subsequent and sustained surge of spending on consumer goods has since overwhelmed supply lines, this is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

The most significant trend has been the abrupt and unprecedented escalation of vessel charter rates. The below index tracks the daily charter rate (USD) for a 1700 TEU capacity vessel, such as the Polynesia, which is required to meet current and future customer space requirements.

Compounding this, is the shortage of shipping containers, again creating significant carrier cost increases for us to continue to meet market demands.

Due to these continuing cost escalations, Swire Shipping can no longer absorb the substantial expenditure required to operate the MV Polynesia, therefore, we will be implementing a general rate increase.

All cargo shipped from the US West Coast into the Pacific will be subject to the following increases to ocean freight (OCF), effective with the sailing of the Polynesia 529S and Cap Salia 964N.

• Per 20’ Container – USD 400
• Per 40’ Container – USD 800
